Areas
To accomplish the research and task-oriented objectives, the proposed activities will be concentrated around the following two areas:
Area 1: Vision and complementary cues
Area 2: Robust and sustainable vision systems
The areas are set up such that Area 1 represents primarily scientific activities, while Area 2 mostly focuses on strategic topics in engineering and deployment. This integration allows research activities to have a unique influence on a proof-of-concept demonstrator development, while still maintaining the distance that is often necessary for meaningful investigation. This combination shall help us to bring the best possible technology to our industry partners and shall allow the advances made in the scientific domain to have a practical and immediate influence in the applied domain.
Areas are linked by the application viewpoints since all of the envisaged applications need aspects from both areas. Area 1 will deliver innovative robust computer vision methods that are optimized and evaluated for deployment in Area 2. Area 2 will ensure the long-lasting impact of developed vision solutions, which should foster co-operations even beyond the K-Project.
The projects within individual areas are the following:
Project 1.1 Multi-modal computer vision
Project 1.2 Spatio-temporal processing
Project 1.3 Knowledge and interaction
Project 2.1 Test and evaluation
Project 2.2 Sustainable vision
The projects of Area 1 are mutually interlinked, i.e. results of each project shall influence and enhance the work in every other scientific project. This can be explained by the fact that targeted vision system enhancements operate on all levels of a vision system, and these levels can only be considered jointly. Area 1 and Area 2 are complementary activities and will be carried out jointly.
